Ireland’s biggest festival is nearly here and if you haven’t got a ticket they are all sold out. Unfortunately I’m not going to be there myself , but that doesn’t stop me checking out the artists and getting who we think you should keep an eye out for, especially those that are less commercial.

  • Rag N Bone Man
  • Interpol

  • Duran Duran
  • Birdy
  • London Grammer
  • DJ Deece (Some local talent)

Be sure to check it the comedy and body and soul areas as it’s just nice to laugh and kick back.

Omar Souleyman – To Syria with Love Out Now

New 2017 album release from Syrian musician Omar Souleyman. To Syria, With Love, is the follow up to 2015’s Bahdeni Nami. To Syria, With Love is a departure musically and lyrically from his previous material, with focus on more elaborate keyboard and techno elements. Completely setting politics aside, Souleyman consciously shares this personal ode to his native country with an emphasis on his emotional connection to the land and people but not without heartache in view of the nation’s current state. “It’s been six years I’ve been away, and I’m tired of looking for home and asking about my loved ones. My soul is wounded and it’s like having dust in my eyes,” Souleyman says.

BBC Radio 1 Premiere for Format:B’s new Claptone remix

Last week saw Annie Mac premiering Format: B’s hotly awaited new Claptone remix ‘Party Girl’ on her Friday evening BBC Radio show, one of the UKs most listened to dance music radio programmes.

DJ and Production duo Format:B’s brand of high octane tech house has graced Riva Starr’s Snatch! Records, Defected, Toolroom and of course their own imprint Formatik which has quickly developed into a leading electronic label. They continue to churn out dance floor targeted bombs at an impressive rate, picking up plays from DJs as diverse as Audiojack, Mihalis Safras, Fedde Le Grand and Fatboy Slim, and their ‘Chunky’ release from 2015 reached the UK national chart.

Their remix of the enigmatic Claptone features their trademark precision beats and heavyweight production, and takes the already strong original up another gear. Listen to Annie Mac playing it on her BBC Radio 1 show here.

The guys have some big releases lined up for 2017, starting with a much anticipated release on Toolroom due out in June.

Soundwave Festival, Croatia, First Names Announced!!!!

For those of you who are freezing your ass off, like myself, maybe this will warm you up.

The mercurial Soundwave, one of Croatia’s longest running festivals, has just released its first wave of amazing names, with Roy Ayers, Gilles Peterson, Go Go Penguin, Yussef Kamaal, Egyptian Lover, Josey Rebelle, Horse Meat Disco, MNDSGN and Donna Leake, all starring next summer.

Set in the beautiful and enchanting Garden Resort in Tisno, over the last 8 years Soundwave has cultivated an audience from around the world seeking a different kind of Adriatic experience, a blend of holiday and festival whose boundaries blur into a mesmerising odyssey.

Reaching its 9th season next summer, through sun-kissed days and sublime nights, Soundwave weaves through broken beat, reggae, afro, house, disco and acid jazz, to hip-hop, soul, funk, drum and bass, vocalists, rappers and more, with a wide-open musical attitude to its guests. It’s this ethos which has helped set the festival apart from many others across Europe, eschewing more common beats and going it alone with a wonderfully diverse aural selection, exploring a range of music seldom heard in the Adriatic region.
